Ease Your Back Pain With Acupuncture

If you are experiencing back pain, you probably have tried many ways to alleviate the pain and discomfort. If nothing has worked for you so far, you may want to consider a treatment that you may not have thought of, one with ancient roots – acupuncture. Traditional Chinese medicine has embraced this option as a means to an end for many different ailments and it has proven very effective. People have been known to use acupuncture for everything ranging from fertility issues to weight loss.

The theory is that every person’s body holds an energy called chi which runs through our bodies on meridians. When we are ill, including suffering from back pain, an energy pathway is blocked. Therefore, your blood is not flowing freely, you develop stagnation in your body’s tissues, and toxins build up making you sick. Many people believe that acupuncture helps to open up those blocked energy pathways through the use of tiny needles that are as thin as a strand of hair.

Acupuncturists use meridian maps to help them know where to place the needles in order to restore the flow of energy. Once the chi is restored, the back pain will resolve itself. The knots in your muscles will release and your back spasms will cease.

If you are interested in trying out this procedure, be sure to choose a reputable acupuncturist who has been licensed. Tell him or her about your back pain history and any medications that you are using, as well as any allergies. Your acupuncturist should explain to you any side effect you may experience, such as pain and soreness at the place of insertion, or any risks for bleeding.

Your acupuncturist will have you lie down on a table for your procedure; it will be comfortable and you will be covered with a gown, towels or sheets for modesty. Be sure to tell your acupuncturist if you feel any type of pain or discomfort; however, most people do not even feel the needles as they are applied.

Some people feel energized right away following the first treatment, but it may take a few sessions for you to feel the full effects. For people with intense pain, heat might be applied to the area in question for a more intense treatment.

Many physicians consider acupuncture to be an alternative treatment, however it continues to gain popularity among patients who suffer from chronic back pain. If you have hit a dead end with other types of treatment, acupuncture could be the answer you seek to put a stop to your long battle with back pain.

Taking medication for back pain will only temporarily relieve your discomfort, it won’t solve the problem. Using back stretch devices is a much more effective approach. Learn more at our Back Stretching Equipment site.
