Finding The Answer To A Good Night’s Sleep
After nearly three weeks of tossing and turning at night, I decided it was time to invest in a new bed. Well, of course, I had seen Tempur beds and mattresses advertised on TV – you’ll remember the ad, where the mattress moulds to the body for even weight distribution and spinal support and comfort. The technology for this came from the 70’s NASA space programme, when special seating had to be designed to help astronauts at lift-off and re-entry to absorb the powerful G-forces.
That was exactly what we needed as our lumpy old mattress is as unyielding as a sack of rocks. So we decided to start our search online as my husband’s work hours make shopping together difficult. We decided to look for a specialist in these particular mattresses and beds and were pleased to find T.J. Levy’s website. It’s a user-friendly and well-illustrated site showing a large range of products, including beautiful beds: from seductive, upholstered divans to sleek, contemporary designs in a choice of wood finishes. Technology and style have come a long way since the 70s!
We were astonished by the range of sizes available – seven bed sizes and five mattress depths between 15 and 31 cm. We thought 15 cm might not be thick enough so we decided on 22 cm for our 60 night home trial. That should give us plenty of time to decide if we liked it.
We were not sure what depth of mattress to go for, so opted for 25 cm, but with the 60 day home trial, you don’t need to worry about making mistakes. You don’t actually need to buy a new bed either as Tempur mattresses fit any existing base or frame. But because of the sales, we decided to indulge ourselves. After all it will last us for years.
I hadn’t realised how lightweight these mattresses were, and the fact they don’t need turning like standard mattresses do, makes them doubly suitable for back-sufferers. They’ve been fully tested in hospitals and trials for eight years or so and come highly recommended by the health profession. That was a good enough endorsement for me.
Having decided on the mattress, we then had to agree on the bed. My husband likes the modern, adjustable beds and we debated whether a beech finish or wenge, which is much darker, would suit our decor best. The one on the site which caught his eye was beech with a contrasting (optional) dark leather headboard – very masculine looking!
We never argue for long though, and with such a beautiful range of beds available, it was easy to find a compromise. We chose a deep, adjustable divan, upholstered in a contemporary suede fabric with beech wood legs. Because it comes in a range of five sizes, we probably argued more about size than style. The individual, adjustable mattresses are absolutely ideal for us.
I’m as excited about delivery as I am about removing myself from the awesome statistics of UK back-pain sufferers. Apparently 80% of the population are affected at some point in their lives, especially in the 35-55 age range. I also can’t wait to throw out my old mattress as this was certainly not doing me any favours. I’m glad we found that website and will probably end up campaigning about it and our new Tempur bed to all our friends.
If you are after a good nights sleep then there is only one answer, Tempur. Unfortunately many of us do not sleep well, whether it’s stress or a bad back related, so if you yearn for that relaxation, you need to buy a mattress from the wide range of Tempur Mattresses on offer from TJ Levy of Manchester. Besides the great service, they also provide free nationwide delivery.
