A disc herniation can cause you to suffer a great amount of pain. This pain may be localized in the back initially, but unless something is done quickly, the pain can spread and eventually become a shooting pain that extends down the legs. For some suffers, the pain of a disc that is herniated may be debilitating.

Spinal arthritis is usually experienced by individuals 40 years and older, and can be a painful and debilitating problem. Causes range from injury, genetics and most commonly the aging process. Diagnosis requires careful examination of the medical history and physical examination. Treatment varies due to the severity of the impairment; however, most people suffering from it can manage well and have little or no disability associated with the disease.

There are a variety of conditions and activities that may lead to back and neck pain. A prime culprit for this type of chronic pain is a condition known as bulging discs.
