Between each vertebrae of your spine are discs made up of connective tissue that act like spongy cushions that allow for protection when your backbone twists and bends. As long as these discs are healthy, your spine remains flexible. But, if a disc becomes damaged it may bulge outward or possibly break. If the disc bulges outward, this may cause nerves to be pinched and create severe pain, muscle weakness as well as numbness and tingling in your legs or arms. A broken disc is referred to as a herniated disc (ruptured disc). A herniated disc can occur anywhere along your spine but is most common in your neck and lower back. Your neck and lower back have a greater range of motion making them prone to disc injuries.

Chiropractic and pregnancy is an amazing topic. Chiropractic is a medical practice that focuses on the tension and pressure within the spine and back region of a human. Many chiropractors have their own clinics in which they regularly service the same clients on a weekly basis. Pregnancy is the condition a woman goes through once one of her eggs have been fertilized and she will soon enter motherhood.

In my clinic patients who receive spinal decompression treatment for herniated discs are first treated with ultrasound to heat up the connective tissue allowing the tissue to elongate easier. Ultrasound treatment prior to spinal decompression makes the treatment more effective.

Chronic back pain frequently results from a variety of common health disorders. These include herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, posterior facet disease, and long term degenerative disc disorders. Many of these problems share one common source. The common source is compressed vertebral discs. These discs supply a much-needed protection between the spinal vertebrae. As they get weakened and swollen, the condition can easily develop into chronic pain that does not go away.

Sciatica is the sensation of pain, tingling, or numbness in the buttocks and/or legs produced by an irritation of the sciatic nerve. Multiple nerve roots extend from the spinal cord in the lower lumbar spine and join with the sacral plexus to form the sciatic nerve, which branches into the peroneal and tibial nerves as it descends into the knees and feet. The primary causes of sciatica are herniated or bulging discs, subluxations (when one or more bones are out of alignment), spinal stenosis, facet syndrome, or cancer. All or one of these conditions can induce pressure on the spinal nerve roots that in turn can cause leg pain.

Many people suffer from Sciatic pain. What is Sciatica? Sciatica is pressure on the Sciatic nerve which is actually two nerves, the tibial and common peroneal nerve, bound together by common sheath of connective tissue. Both of these nerves form the Sciatic nerve, and they originate from L4-S3. Pressure or injury to the sciatic nerve results in sciatica. Sciatic pain can start in the back and go all the way down the buttucks, into the sides of the leg and foot.
