The neck, also referred to as the “cervical spine”, is in charge of many very important tasks. It supports the entire weight of your head (which averages about twelve pounds), it allows you to move your head in a wide range of directions, and provides you with flexibility. It is precisely because of these functions and the location of the neck, that it can be quite prone to pain and injury. If for any reason a person begins to experience neck pain, daily activities begin to suffer, as does the overall quality of life.

Sciatica normally brings about low back pain, leg pain, or both because of its location in the body. This is a medical problem that’s primarily connected to the widest and longest nerve fiber called the sciatic nerve. This nerve is found in the lower back area and goes straight down from the buttocks to the legs. Its key function is to give and collect electrical signals from your brain to the lower parts of the body. The impingement of this nerve fiber results from various complications bringing about swelling, irritation, and chronic pain.

Spinal stenosis is a condition connected with arthritis in the spine.. As folks age, if they don't look after their spinal column and aren't leading an active and healthful way of life, their spinal column can start to grow worse and problems such as spinal stenosis can begin to turn up. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the inter-vertebral spaces in the spine, which puts stress on the nerves that branch outward from the backbone and causes pain.

Between each vertebrae of your spine are discs made up of connective tissue that act like spongy cushions that allow for protection when your backbone twists and bends. As long as these discs are healthy, your spine remains flexible. But, if a disc becomes damaged it may bulge outward or possibly break. If the disc bulges outward, this may cause nerves to be pinched and create severe pain, muscle weakness as well as numbness and tingling in your legs or arms. A broken disc is referred to as a herniated disc (ruptured disc). A herniated disc can occur anywhere along your spine but is most common in your neck and lower back. Your neck and lower back have a greater range of motion making them prone to disc injuries.

Sciatica is the sensation of pain, tingling, or numbness in the buttocks and/or legs produced by an irritation of the sciatic nerve. Multiple nerve roots extend from the spinal cord in the lower lumbar spine and join with the sacral plexus to form the sciatic nerve, which branches into the peroneal and tibial nerves as it descends into the knees and feet. The primary causes of sciatica are herniated or bulging discs, subluxations (when one or more bones are out of alignment), spinal stenosis, facet syndrome, or cancer. All or one of these conditions can induce pressure on the spinal nerve roots that in turn can cause leg pain.

The nerve system in your body is the main management system. It is made up of the brain, spine, and spinal nerves that exit the spine. These are called the peripheral nerves. The brain is the main power source and control center of literally every function in the body. If it dies, you will die.
