Cardiac Rehab is a treatment program for patients diagnosed with heart disease to recover faster and return to their normal pace of life. It teaches the patient how to live with heart disease, and how to bring about a change in lifestyle and follow the right path to a healthy and stronger heart. Whether these changes are physical or psychological affecting emotions they have to be understood and allowed for during recovery. Some of the physical changes will be explained but don’t forget the importance of helping yourself. Remember also that often at least initially, thinking processes can be affected which may make comprehension more difficult.

Finding the right doctor to suit your individual needs can be a difficult task, particularly if you have never been to a doctor before. There are many different chiropractic care techniques as well as different philosophies and approaches to case management. Sadly, some new chiropractic patients are displeased with their initial chiropractic experience because they chose a doctor whose approach was not consistent with the patient’s wants and expectations.

Chiropractic care has relieved many musculoskeletal problems. The most common ones being neck, back, and shoulder pain. Chiropractic care however is intended to extend health beyond just the alleviation of symptoms. Spinal adjustments allow the free flow of nerve impulses which facilitate overall health to the body. As every cell in the human body is governed by nerve impulses, it is vitally important that these nerves send information free of interference. The application of gentle spinal manipulation removes nerve impingement and allows proper nerve conduction.

1. Post-rehab services are not reimbursed by Insurance carriers. The truth is if the insurance carrier feels the services will benefit the client, improve the client’s overall level of function and the that services are not used in lieu of the services provided by a licensed physical therapist, chiropractor or physician they are open to the idea of paying for post rehab services. For more details, see my article on the “5 Criteria for Post Rehab Insurance Reimbursement”.

Building a medical exercise-training program is a great way to fight the effects of the economic slowdown. I have recently spoken with numerous facilities attempting to add medical fitness programming to their services. Incorporating a medical fitness program is an excellent concept but you need a plan to get the program moving. The biggest obstruction for most fitness facilities is the lack of a comprehensive plan. You need a plan that will allow you to link up with medical professionals, handle a broad range of post rehab clients and put together your programs to meet the needs of medical professionals and clients in your neighborhood. There are 15 steps required to put a medical exercise training/post rehab program into your practice. These steps are listed below. Make use of these keys to “Bridge the Gap Between Health Care and Fitness” and create your post rehab program.

1. Doctors lack understanding of exercise and will not refer clients for medical fitness services. This is true, in regard to the development of specific exercise programs for their patients; physicians do not have a significant amount of knowledge. After the physician discharges the patient many do not know how to refer clients for medical fitness services. Many times, physicians are unaware of the impact of exercise on the functional capacity of their clients. It is up to you, the fitness professional, to ensure that the physicians know and understand that exercise is one of the keys to long-term management of most medical conditions. Once the physician realizes this they will begin to refer clients.
