Cardiac Rehab is a treatment program for patients diagnosed with heart disease to recover faster and return to their normal pace of life. It teaches the patient how to live with heart disease, and how to bring about a change in lifestyle and follow the right path to a healthy and stronger heart. Whether these changes are physical or psychological affecting emotions they have to be understood and allowed for during recovery. Some of the physical changes will be explained but don’t forget the importance of helping yourself. Remember also that often at least initially, thinking processes can be affected which may make comprehension more difficult.

After a stroke either the left or right side of your body doesn’t work properly to some degree. This has a large effect on your proprioception or sense of where your body is. You lose your ability to know where the middle is. Your brain interprets it as being towards the non-affected side because of the loss of use of your paralyzed arm or leg. This has to be combated initially quite simply by making sure you lean to your affected, paralyzed side. This stimulates the brain and stops it forgetting the affected side.

Our muscles are there to be used and the more they are stimulated, the stronger they get. In the initial phases of stroke rehabilitation, much emphasis is paid teaching the patient how to sit up, stand up and eventually start walking. A physiotherapist is very important in guiding you through this stressful period. The stroke sufferer must be positive and help as much as possible in his/her own recovery. Without this active rehabilitation the chances of good recovery drop sharply.

Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is used to speed recovery after a CVA. It is particularly helpful when used on the shoulder muscles in both building up strength and preventing shoulder atrophy. An unused muscle soon becomes stiff and painful which makes it difficult to move. Regular muscle stimulation relaxes and strengthens your muscles and helps speed your rehabilitation. The stimulators are easy to use and don’t require physiotherapist supervision so you can use them every day.

EMS are particularly good at stimulating the muscles involved in wrist and finger movement to minimize stiffness in the hands and fingers. Finally remember that a positive outlook will help speed your rehabilitation success. The goal of Rehab is to return a patient of heart disease to a normal and healthy lifestyle, sticking to lifestyle changes like quitting smoking and alcohol and following strict exercise regimes. Dr. Carissa Hang is a doctor with many years of experience who concentrates on exercise and rehabilitation. She has helped many people of all ages, varying from newborns to post surgical candidates.

Finding the right doctor to suit your individual needs can be a difficult task, particularly if you have never been to a doctor before. There are many different chiropractic care techniques as well as different philosophies and approaches to case management. Sadly, some new chiropractic patients are displeased with their initial chiropractic experience because they chose a doctor whose approach was not consistent with the patient’s wants and expectations.

It’s always best to go with a clinic that is turning out happy customers whose back problems have vanished because of their excellent quality treatment. Word of mouth is still the best way to start. Ask your doctor for the names of a few good chiropractors. Your primary care physician will be able to direct you to some chiropractic offices that are well known, trustworthy and reputable. If you have any friends who have had work done, ask them for names.

Is the clinic legit? Here are a few easy ways to tell if a practitioner is the real thing. First, they should have completed 4 years of advanced chiropractic training from an accredited institution. Look for their diploma and credentials on the wall. Second, they must have a license to practice in your state. This should be prominently displayed in their clinic. If they don’t have it, or if they start telling you reasons why they don’t have it, skip them. There are lots of practitioners out there, and not all of them are legitimate.

During the consultation, a good chiropractor will take a thorough history and give you a complete physical, orthopedic, and neurological exam. The chiropractor should palpate for any misalignments or abnormalities. They should look at the areas that hurt as well as the surrounding areas that may indirectly affect your area of complaint. You don’t need a lot of x-rays a minimal series might be adequate to diagnose your problem.

Some chiropractors provide treatment for symptomatic relief, while others believe in providing some degree of rehabilitation, and still others do long-term treatment to permanently correct skeletal alignment. The differences in these approaches are considerable when it comes to the frequency and duration of treatment prescribed. A good chiropractor will give you honest expectations about how many visits you might need before you see real noticeable results. But most importantly, go with what feels right to you.

A wide variety of musculoskeletal problems are treated successfully by chiropractors. A lot of people don't quite realize the extent of these conditions, here are 10 of them.

A wide variety of musculoskeletal problems are treated successfully by chiropractors. A lot of people don’t quite realize the extent of these conditions, here are 10 of them.

1) Headaches – There are numerous different types of headaches including Cluster headaches, Tension headaches, Migraines, and those headaches that are caused by referred pain from a neck issue. For instance, a problem with facet arthritis or whiplash may be causing neck pain and/or instability. But in addition the patient may be experiencing headacheas that are persistent. Treatment would focus on alleviating the neck pain, which in turn may reduce the pain from headaches too. Cluster and tension headaches may experience substantial relief with chiropractic treatment.

2) Neck pain – One of the more common reasons for chiropractic treatment. Pain may be coming from a car wreck, arthritis, or a weekend warrior injury. Chiropractor treatment may consist of stretching, strenghtening, acupuncture, manipulations, massage, or electrotherapy.

3) Low Back Pain – Low Back Pain affects 90% of the US population at some point in life. It’s unbelievably common, and chiropractors offer excellent treatment options to helping patients get back to work quicker, playing with their children, and becoming more active.

4) Mid Back pain -The first necessary item is for the doctor to make sure the pain is musculoskeletal in origin. At times mid back pain could be coming from one of the body organs. Arthritis, a disc/rib problem, or a thoracic herniated disc can get lots of pain relief from chiropractic treatment. A vascular or gallbladder issue should be ruled out as treatment is different.

5) Shoulder Pain – Impingement syndrome affects millions of people in the US every year, fortunately over ninety percent can avoid an operation with nonsurgical treatment. Chiropractic therapies like TENS, heat, ice, laser, massage, manipulations, electrotherapy, and PT/Rehab often help patients substantially.

6) Fibromyalgia – This is a difficult diagnosis to manage, as the presentation can be so variable and a treatment that works well for one patient may not work at all for another. Some “fibro” patients may be able to tolerate therapies like massage or spinal decompression or adjustments, others do not tolerate these at all. So treatment can work, just needs to be individualized.

7) Failed Back Surgery Syndrome – Lumbar surgery doesn’t always work great, or it may just get rid of half a person’s pain. So what then? Well if another operation is not going to help, chiropractic therapy may help a lot with pain relief.
Knee pain – Prior to jumping into knee surgery, patients should attempt PT/Rehab and additional treatments with a chiropractor.

9) Hip Pain – pain in a patient’s hip may not be coming from the hip at all, it could be from a spinal problem like spinal stenosis. A chiropractor can properly diagnose the issue potentially in conjunction with an interventional pain doctor and provide successful treatment once the proper diagnosis is established.

10) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – This is extremely common, but at times surgery can be avoided. Chiropractic treatment with someone trained in carpal tunnel therapy may avoid surgery.

There are massive forces involved with the sudden deceleration that occurs in an auto accident. Auto accidents can be a very traumatic experience for anyone to go through. There are not only physical injuries to deal with, but psychological injuries as well. Sometimes the amount of damage to the vehicle involved in an auto accident may seem minor, an accident can cause significant damage to the soft tissues of the spinal column.

Getting in an auto accident can cause whiplash because the force of the crash will force the head to move forward and backward in an unnatural accelerated manner. Very commonly, the head reaches hyper-extension and then hyper-flexion. This aggressive movement will injure the muscles and ligaments of the neck. This injury is commonly called ‘whiplash’ and is called a cervical hyperflexion/hyperextension injury in medical terms.

Chiropractic care has been demonstrated to be the most effective course of treatment for this type of injury. After a thorough examination, which will include a physical examination and often x-rays, a chiropractor will begin treatment. The aim of chiropractic treatment is to re-align the vertebrae that have been subluxated (slightly dislocated) by the forces involved in the collision. It is important to re-align the cervical vertebrae and maintain this alignment while the soft tissues around the spinal column heal. If the vertebrae are not properly aligned through chiropractic adjustments, the soft tissues (muscles and ligaments) will heal with the vertebrae misaligned and this can lead to a variety of physical problems later on.

In addition to chiropractic adjustments, your chiropractic doctor will often also use massage and physiotherapy to promote blood flow and healing. Since a ‘whiplash’ injury is essentially a sprain/strain of the ligaments and muscles, it needs time to heal. Complete healing may take months to heal. It often takes this long for ligaments to regain their full strength. That does not mean that you will be in pain for that long, just that it takes that long to recover completely. Even after complete recovery, the tissues may not have full strength or mobility.

To improve the everyday activities with insignificant strain to the body is the objective of whiplash treatment. Aside from the manipulation and therapy given, patients are also advised on how to handle stress and tension. If you, or someone you know, have been involved in a car accident, you should contact the doctors at New Century Spine Centers in San Diego. These doctors dedicate themselves to educating people on the goodness of chiropractic.

Chiropractic care has relieved many musculoskeletal problems. The most common ones being neck, back, and shoulder pain. Chiropractic care however is intended to extend health beyond just the alleviation of symptoms. Spinal adjustments allow the free flow of nerve impulses which facilitate overall health to the body. As every cell in the human body is governed by nerve impulses, it is vitally important that these nerves send information free of interference. The application of gentle spinal manipulation removes nerve impingement and allows proper nerve conduction.

The main focus in chiropractic care is placed upon the proper alignment of the vertebrae and associated joints. Proper balance and functioning of the joints is of importance to the continued health and well being of every patient. Attention is also placed upon the proper functioning of your neurological system, as pinched nerves and neuralgia can adversely affect a patient’s quality of life.

An improper posture can result in neck and back pain and is a large contributor to headaches and shoulder blade pain. Tingling, burning and numbness experienced in the areas mentioned above are signs of pinched nerves and can be alleviated through chiropractic care.

Posture correction therapy involves the use of stretches and exercises to strengthen your core muscles to help support your entire frame. Once strengthened, they aid in supporting the correct positioning of your spinal column to ensure adequate flexibility for your entire frame.

A chiropractic adjustment is the usage of gentle physical pressure applied to an affected joint. The application of external pressure works to correct the misalignment therefore removing fixation of the joints and allowing proper mobility. Your chiropractor is also qualified to give advice to patients regarding nutrition, weight loss and safe exercise routines to help maintain health and fitness.

A common complaint for many individuals is shoulder pain, and this is the reason that many people seek out the services of chiropractors. Shoulder pain should be treated quickly after onset to avoid the development of a recurring problem. This type of pain can benefit from the services of a chiropractor. Chiropractic treatment will be patient oriented. It will target the cause that is specific to the problem. There are various signs that signal the need for care: inability to carry objects, raise the arm, or pain at night or during rest.

Before administration of chiropractic treatment, it is necessary to determine the underlying cause of the pain. It is often necessary for certain tests to be performed such as X-rays or MRI. A complete and detailed medical history will be gathered from the patient as well. Chiropractors will assess and evaluate the neck and other areas to see if there is a problem that is causing the pain to radiate into the shoulder. Once this information is gathered, it is used to make a diagnosis and plan of care. The plan of care suggested by your chiropractor will be based on the underlying cause of the pain and the severity of the damage.

Many individuals do not gain immediate relief from a manipulation. It often takes several sessions before any amount of pain is alleviated. There are measures that individuals can practice at home to help in the process of healing. Some of these are as follows: rest, applying ice/heat, stretching, and possibly taking anti-inflammatory medications for the first few days.

Once the pain has been alleviated by the chiropractor’s treatments, patients should continue to follow an exercise regimen as recommend. This will lessen the chance of a recurrence of the problem. Exercise will promote the stability and endurance of the joint as well as the strength.

Asthma is a persistent inflammatory sickness that results into obstruction of the airflow in the lungs distinguished by different extent of chronic symptoms. These symptoms include coughing, wheezing, dyspnea, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. All over the world, about 300 million people experience this ailment.

There are two things that occur in your lungs whenever you have an asthma attack: constriction and inflammation of the muscles around the airways. Symptoms like cough, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath occur due to the narrowed airways. Unattended asthma results into an enduring depreciation of the proper functioning of the lungs. Hence, it is vital to prevent that from happening. Do not permit the symptoms to grow into something very serious. Asthma will still be present even if the symptoms are not evident. Some may even stop from taking medications once the symptoms decline. You must take note that the sickness’ underlying conditions need management on a daily basis. Even though there are various treatments available for asthma, if you are not properly utilizing them, then there is a probability that these will not work for you.

What can cause asthma? At present, there is still no determined cause of asthma. Nevertheless, it tends to run in some families. The condition itself isn’t heritable. On the contrary, there may be a heritage tendency which can determine one’s predisposition to asthma. Some think that contact with many different allergens available in our environment coupled with our own hereditary risk develop into asthma.

Most asthmatics are able to note what trigger their asthma episode. Examples of these triggers are pollens, dust, and rough weather conditions such as very cold temperatures. There are also common sickness, like flu and cold, which trigger asthma. In addition, heavy work and stressful activities can also trigger asthma episodes.

Presently, the cure for asthma is still unknown. The treatment is directed on medications to manage the symptoms of asthma. As a result, almost all asthmatics manage the disease with chronic medication treatment. The medications may cause negative side effects like nausea, diarrhea, headaches, indigestion, and loss of sleep. Because of this, people are looking for alternative ways to manage the symptoms of asthma, ways that are more suitable and natural. While some people go for diet modification, others avoid getting themselves exposed to surrounding allergens that can precipitate an asthma attack.

Chiropractic, a profession under health care, theorizes that mechanical problems involving our musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, influence our general health status via our nervous system. It focuses on early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of such disorders. The core method utilized in treating disorders involves manual therapy, including manipulation of the spine, joints, and soft tissues. Categorized as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), the therapy includes exercises and fitness counseling.

Chiropractic rehabilitation provided favorable outcome from many clinical studies and trials. Prompt intervention is very significant. Asthmatic people who initiated chiropractic care noticed that it improved their health conditions. As a result, it freed some of them from daily medication regimen.

Misalignments in the spinal column cause different health conditions because it is there where the important nerves are located. When the vertebrae pinch the nerves, the latter are restricted of their usefulness. In Australia, Dr. Ray Hayek conducted a clinical study involving 420 patients with an average age of 46. He wanted to know whether spinal manipulation has an effect on their general health status, psychological well being, and their immune levels. He wanted to verify whether the various forms of manual therapy lower cortisol levels and relieve symptoms in asthma patients. To determine its efficacy, he tested the concentrations of cortisol, an immunosuppressant, and immunoglobulin (IgA). According to Dr. Hayek, the patient group who received spinal manipulation portrayed considerable improvement in asthma symptoms. Additionally, the patients presented dramatic decrease of cortisol and increase in IgA even after the treatment for asthma had ceased. This suggests that chiropractic therapy affects the patients’ health in the long run. It may also indicate that chiropractic manipulations are expected to decrease the incidence and severity of airway invasions by pathogens. Under these situations, there would be decreased risk of experiencing asthma symptoms.

1.	Post-rehab services are not reimbursed by Insurance carriers. The truth is if the insurance carrier feels the services will benefit the client, improve the client’s overall level of function and the that services are not used in lieu of the services provided by a licensed physical therapist, chiropractor or physician they are open to the idea of paying for post rehab services. For more details, see my article on the “5 Criteria for Post Rehab Insurance Reimbursement”.

2.	A provider number is required to bill an insurance company and obtain insurance reimbursement. This is not necessarily accurate. The provider number is a number used to identify the practitioner as a member of the network and nothing more. It may make getting reimbursement a bit harder but the insurance carrier does not say that non-providers cannot receive re-imbursement. Obtaining pre-authorization for post-rehab services is the key. I would recommend that you approach the insurance company to become a provider if you have multiple fitness facilities. There is an application process for obtaining a provider number but fitness is becoming an integral part of the medical management of many conditions.

3.	In billing the insurance carrier to obtain insurance reimbursement for post-rehab services it is okay to use the medical professional’s license. Absolutely not true and doing this may be insurance fraud. Using a license of a physical therapist, chiropractor, physician and/or nurse to bill for post-rehab services is 100% illegal. It is illegal to bill under a medical professionals license number unless the medical professional actually provide the services. By contacting the insurance company and explaining your programs and the benefits of your programs, you may find that they will be receptive to paying you directly for post rehab services. I can’t stress this enough, do not use a medical professional’s license number to bill for your post rehab services; it is illegal.

4.	If the physical therapist and/or chiropractor charge a certain amount I should be able to charge the same. Every provider out there is tracked by the insurance carriers. The insurance carrier has developed a profile on each medical provider that they use to determine if a provider is billing for extreme treatments or billing for services that should not be covered. They also use this profile to determine if a provider is excessively billing for services. You need to understand, as a post-rehab professional, that a chiropractor or physical therapist services may be more specialized than yours before you start to charge the exact same amount. A physical therapist or chiropractor is not better than a post rehab specialist but remember their overhead cost may be a little different, probably greater, and there’s a higher level of professionalism, and take that into consideration when you’re attempting to bill at their same level. When you try to bill the same thing that the physician, chiropractor or physical therapist do, the insurance carrier may adjust those charges to give you what they want you to receive rather than what you are asking for. Play fair with the insurance companies. In the long run you’ll be better off.

5.	Working with seniors and getting insurance reimbursement for senior fitness services can be very profitable. Medicare and Medicare will not approve reimbursement for post-rehab services. In the past, a couple of groups in Arizona and Florida received reimbursement from Medicare for a group-based fitness services, but Medicare denied any further claims after one or two payments. Carriers that are more receptive to post rehab service reimbursement would be workman’s compensation carriers, motor vehicle accident carriers, and some third-party carriers. Reimbursement is not possible from Medicare and Medicaid for post rehab services.

6.	I will get a reimbursement check from the insurance carrier by simply sending the insurance carrier my bill. Pre-authorization for post rehab services must be obtained from the insurance carrier. After you conduct an assessment and determine the exercise program for the client you will then contact the insurance carrier. You will need to outline for that insurance carrier how long, how often and how much, with regard to the post-rehab services. It is not wise to think that simply submitting a bill to your client’s insurance carrier is going to get you reimbursement. Obtaining pre-authorization for services and/or products is something physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, hospitals, surgical centers all do. They do not just submit a bill to the insurance carrier.

7.	The only documentation an insurance carrier needs for reimbursement is a copy of the workout card. The insurance carrier needs to know what was done, how it was beneficial to the client, and, most importantly, the outcome. You must provide more than simply the workout card indicating sets and reps and the exercises performed. You need to outline the details of the session, the outcome of the session, the session goals, and, more importantly, the plan of what will be done in the subsequent sessions. So it’s not simply the idea of just sending the insurance carrier a bill. To obtain reimbursement the insurance carrier needs some details.

These are the seven myths of insurance reimbursement for post-rehab services. I invite you to get more details on how to submit insurance claims and obtain insurance reimbursement for post rehab services at www.postrehabtoday.com http://www.postrehabtoday.com and click on the link for insurance reimbursement. I guarantee this program will provide you with information there in our insurance reimbursement program that will dismiss all the myths and misconceptions about insurance reimbursement.

Building a medical exercise-training program is a great way to fight the effects of the economic slowdown. I have recently spoken with numerous facilities attempting to add medical fitness programming to their services. Incorporating a medical fitness program is an excellent concept but you need a plan to get the program moving. The biggest obstruction for most fitness facilities is the lack of a comprehensive plan. You need a plan that will allow you to link up with medical professionals, handle a broad range of post rehab clients and put together your programs to meet the needs of medical professionals and clients in your neighborhood. There are 15 steps required to put a medical exercise training/post rehab program into your practice. These steps are listed below. Make use of these keys to “Bridge the Gap Between Health Care and Fitness” and create your post rehab program.

1.	The first step is to appoint a post rehab/medical exercise training director or liaison for the program. 2.	You need to review all of your current client files and compile a list of physicians, physical therapists and chiropractors listed on the medical history forms of your clients. 3.	You need to identify the 10 most common conditions you administer to in your facility and establish criteria that each client diagnosed with these conditions must meet to become a client in the medical exercise program. You should also use the post rehab protocols as the basis for all your training programs. 4.	You need to enroll in mandatory post rehab education/certification programs. 5.	You need to determine if added fitness equipment or equipment alterations are necessary for your facility.

6.	Establish a target medical marketing list noting the names of medical professionals in your community with whom you wish to develop referral relationships. 7.	Package your fitness services with the needs of medical professionals and medical exercise clients in mind. 8.	Establish a medical exercise training/post rehab fitness-marketing package to give to clients, medical professionals and insurance carriers. The package should be modified for each group for each of the fore mentioned groups. 9.	Establish a distinct pricing schedule for the medical exercise training/post rehab program. Post rehab fitness services should be priced at least 20% higher than standard fitness services. The post rehab assessment should be priced 25 – 50% above the standard fitness assessment. 10.	Contact every physician listed in your client files by sending an introductory letter and medical fitness-marketing package.

11. You need to make presentations to each medical professional on your target list stressing the benefits of your medical fitness program and summarizing how your program packages would benefit them. 12.	You need to put together an intake process for your medical exercise training and post rehab fitness clients. The process should have all of the necessary forms and paperwork to keep a record of the services you provide to the client. 13.	You need to add in the musculoskeletal screening into the first assessment for all medical exercise and post rehab clients. 14.	You need to establish a follow-up procedure to make contact with each new client’s physician after the assessment and the preparation of the conditioning program have been completed 15.	You need to learn the step-by-step procedure of obtaining insurance reimbursement for post rehab services.

By incorporating the points listed above into your plan, you will be have a profitable and successful medical exercise training and post rehab program. Should further information be needed on developing a profitable and successful post rehab program please visit www.postrehab.com http://www.postrehab.com.

1. Doctors lack understanding of exercise and will not refer clients for medical fitness services. This is true, in regard to the development of specific exercise programs for their patients; physicians do not have a significant amount of knowledge. After the physician discharges the patient many do not know how to refer clients for medical fitness services. Many times, physicians are unaware of the impact of exercise on the functional capacity of their clients. It is up to you, the fitness professional, to ensure that the physicians know and understand that exercise is one of the keys to long-term management of most medical conditions. Once the physician realizes this they will begin to refer clients.

2. Medical professionals will recognize me because of my fitness certifications and begin to refer clients. How do you know all the letters behind your physician’s name? I ask that because medical professionals will not know the major fitness organizations or their certifications. Please understand medical professionals assume you are qualified and you can manage the medically based client. To medical professionals, fitness certifications mean nothing. The results you produce with your clients will give you more credibility with medical professionals than your fitness certifications.

3. You cannot obtain insurance reimbursement for post rehab fitness programming. A survey was done a few years ago regarding insurance reimbursement for the services provided by medical exercise specialists and post rehab conditioning specialists; the results of that survey shows that 61% have received some form of insurance reimbursement for post rehab services. To obtain insurance reimbursement, pre-authorization before the training begins is the key. A signed referral from the physician is necessary before the insurance carrier will consider reimbursement.

4. I cannot perform a thorough assessment on my post rehab client until every muscular imbalance or postural imbalance is corrected. Posture and muscular imbalances is not a, what you see is what you get scenario. This is why a thorough assessment of flexibility, strength and function needs to be performed on the client by you as well as a complete medical history. You need to have all of this information prior to correcting any muscular or postural imbalances.

5. I can manage the medical based client effectively without communicating with medical professionals. You have to be able to communicate effectively by contacting doctors, therapists, chiropractors and insurance carriers. You have to be able to communicate with the therapist, chiropractor, physician and the insurance carrier via phone and effective written communication in the form of progress reports and assessment reports to the. A written report of some kind is required in the medical community for every treatment, examination, diagnosis and every test. In the management of the medical fitness client effective communication is extremely important.

6. I do the same thing as the physical therapist and chiropractor. Does a physical therapist do the same thing that a physician does? No, but in some instances you find there is an overlap skills when managing a client. Physical therapists don’t do the same thing a personal trainer does. This doesn’t belittle the personal trainer, it simple says the personal trainer is the fitness expert and the therapist is the rehab expert. Be the fitness expert, not the medical expert.

7. Large, well-equipped fitness facilities are the ideal place to provide post rehab fitness. A client’s home or a small fitness studio is the setting for most post-rehab training. These facilities are effective in delivering appropriate and safe post rehab programming. By using balls, bands, dumbbells, thera-tubing, stretching straps and even manual resistance you can be extremely effective in managing the post rehab client and assuring function improvement.

8. It is not necessary to market post rehab services to the medical community. As previously stated, medical professionals do not have a complete understanding of post rehab exercise. It is important for you to make your case and market post rehab services. Sometimes “marketing” is looked upon as a dirty word. Most of us feel uncomfortable selling our services. You are not selling your services; you are simply letting people know of a service that can significantly impact lives. Make sure you list the conditions that benefit from post rehab fitness specifically and clearly outline your scope of practice.

9. Training muscle is what Post rehab fitness is all about. When managing clients with certain disorders such as musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiovascular, it is not just about muscle training. It is about using exercise to manage the underlying pathology. It is not just about muscle, it is about managing the connective tissue with exercise, whether it is increasing flexibility, increasing strength, increasing durability or increasing endurance. So it is not just about training muscle, it is about training the client as a whole. Connective tissue should be the main focus in post rehab.

10. My knowledge should all come from Fitness journals and fitness based workshops. Taking courses offered in the medical community is required to manage medically based clients. Attending medical conferences and reading medical journals and periodicals is a must. The current fitness journals research may not be as thorough as the medical journals research that is presented. Research that provides you with the whole picture on the management of the post rehab client is what you should look for.

11. I am only a personal trainer; medical professionals won’t listen to me. This is the biggest misconception in post rehab fitness. The reason medical professionals won’t listen to the fitness professional is many personal trainers do not present themselves professionally. Understand you’re the exercise expert. Convey that to the medical professional in a professional manner. Make sure you use correct medical terminology, make sure that you are up on anatomy, physiology and pathology before you contact the medical professional and dress appropriately for your first meeting. If you’re not, you will be dismissed as just a personal trainer. As a post rehab professional you hold the key to long term management of most medical conditions…..exercise!!!
