Chiropractic is an effective strategy of helping scoliosis when treated correctly. Scoliosis comes from the greek word skolios which means crooked. It is an abnormality where the spine has a side to side curvature. Scoliosis is classified as either congenital or idiopathic. The cause of the idiopathic type is unknown. It may also be referred to as musculoskeletal scoliosis when it really is brought on by another condition including trauma or atrophy of the spinal muscles.

Scoliosis may cause pressure on the lungs and diminish lung capacity if sever enough. It may also push on the heart and trigger weakness in physical activity. Some of the signs of scoliosis might include rib or shoulder blade prominence on one side of the spine. This is a result of rotation of the rib cage when there is a scoliosis inside the mid back. Spinal musculature might also be imbalanced showing tightness on one side of the spine and not on the other. Imbalanced hips or shoulders are also signs of scoliosis.

There are different methods of treating scoliosis. Some of these include chiropractic, physical therapy, occupational therapy, bracing or surgery. Bracing is normally done in adolescents where their bone growth has not completed and is often recommended when the curvature is between 30 and 45 degrees. The brace is meant to stabilize the spine and prevent the curve from progressing. However, bracing can be very uncomfortable. Physical activity can also be very difficult as the brace pushes against the stomach. It may also restrict breathing. Children have been shown to lose weight from the bracing with the pressure on the abdominal area. Braces are often recommended to be worn 22-23 hours a day.

Surgery by an orthopedist may also be recommended for curves that have a high likelihood of progressing or affect physiological functions such as breathing. This is usually when the curvature is greater than 45 to 50 degrees. There are risks associated with surgery as it is invasive. Some of these complications include inflammation of the soft tissue, breathing impairments, bleeding and nerve damage. Some that have undergone surgery will require further surgery as early as five years after the initial operation. The long-term benefits of surgery remain unclear.

Chiropractors are well trained in the diagnosis and management of scoliosis. They will perform an examination which will involve examining the patient’s posture and performing specific tests to determine if there is a scoliosis in the spine. X-rays are taken when needed to see an image of the curvature of the spine. They will measure the spine on X-ray to determine the angle of the curvature and the severity of the scoliosis. Specific chiropractic adjustments are performed to help correct the abnormal curvature. Physiotherapy modalities and corrective exercises may also be recommended to help heal soft tissue and help the muscles that are affected.

Because chiropractor’s main focus and training is on the spine, they’re nicely suited for the management of this disease. Chiropractors are trained to locate and fix misaligned bones inside the spine. Numerous people with scoliosis have had exceptional success with chiropractic. Chiropractic is most helpful for scoliosis when treated early on prior to the curvature becoming severe. Nonetheless, many older people also report improvement and relief with chiropractic care. Study has shown that chiropractic is efficient with the reduction and stabilization of scoliosis. Some report a complete correction of the abnormal curvature following chiropractic care. Chiropractic needs to be considered as a main option for the treatment of scoliosis.

The condition termed scoliosis is one in which the spine eventually curves and distorts. Patients often experience varying levels of curvature and associated symptoms of pain. This limits participation in daily activities due to extra strain on the back, which is why the St. Petersburg chiropractic can help individuals in managing the severity of reported symptoms.

The aim of therapy is to promote natural methods in achieving healthy functioning. Well-being is enhanced through the care of a chiropractor where the objective is to address the issues that arise due to the condition. Patients’ concerns will be discussed through every step of the process for improved healing.

The condition affects both young and old alike and often the extent of the curve will vary from one individual to the next. Upon consultation, trained professionals will be given the opportunity to examine and evaluate the spine. A chiropractor incorporates a focus on the misalignment of the spinal column and thus doctors can assist in helping the patient to manage experienced symptoms.

The latest in technology is incorporated with traditional methods for developing and implementing suitable plans. X-rays or scanning methods are often required for identification of the degree in curvature. With the information that is attained, chiropractors can devise solutions for relieving the experienced discomfort.

Methods of assistance most suited to the lifestyle of patients are devised for positive outcomes. A range of therapies are available for the issues that may arise due to the stages of this condition. Posture is important in management of symptoms which is why, through education, the professional can teach individuals with scoliosis the necessary positions when sitting and lying down to alleviate discomfort.

Pain can be alleviated through a range of techniques that are implemented by the St. Petersburg chiropractic. Through education, individuals can learn to manage symptoms and engage in regular activities. A holistic approach to self healing is adopted in chiropractic care.

Have you ever been told you have a short leg and you wonder how is that possible? For some people, it might not affect their activities of daily living but for others it might cause them moderate pain. A short leg can add to muscle imbalances because it makes your weight distribute unevenly throughout your body. Ask any doctor who treats chronic back pain and they will agree, that correcting the short leg is the first approach to correcting the problem.

Being a ball and socket joint, the hip allows for a variety of movements of the leg, so it relies heavily on the muscles in the lower back, the leg and buttocks for support. The condition of each of these supporting muscles, relative to their ability to contract and lengthen with movement, or their resting length, will determine the angle at which the neck of the femur sits in its socket. If problems with any of the relevant muscles on one side of the body cause this neck of the femur to draw up or downwards slightly, it will affect the length of that leg in relation to the other side. This causes the pelvis to tilt and other muscles in the body to start compensating.

Because of our active lifestyle these days, injuries can occur easily. Whether it be from an accident or from overuse of a joint for a specific sport, the wear and tear of repetitive movements will compound with the existing short leg, causing compromised performance. If left untreated you can develop frequent muscle spasms and even chronic pain.

Once a person has a short leg their pelvis is drawn down on that side and up on the other. This causes tension in the spine and in the erector spinae muscles of the back. When this happens the spine will tend to curve and some of the vertebrae become twisted or tilted especially in people with weak muscles. This is often the underlying cause of back pain, scoliosis, or facet syndrome. If you see one of your shoulders higher than the other when you look in the mirror or if one leg of your pants is always longer on one side, these are good clues to go check your spine evaluated.

Whether the problems with these joints or muscles become permanent or not depends largely on things like posture, stress levels and whether the original problem is given the correct treatment. When proper treatment is not received, the over used or over stretched parts will become arthritic and difficult to treat with time. Don’t let your short leg prevent you from living the life you want. Come see any of our doctors at New Century Spine Centers in San Diego and let us help you get your life back on track.

The AZ chiropractors are trusted medical professionals who have a sincere caring attitude for their patients which is why a chiropractor recommends that their patients come in for regular maintenance treatments. Many people think that chiropractors suggests repeat visits in order to make more money off their patients. But dentists and medical doctors make the same suggestion and no one accuses the dentist or medical doctor of making money off repeat business.

Most people will start feeling the positive effects of chiropractic treatments after four or five sessions. But it is important to keep returning to the chiropractor for maintenance sessions or else the body will slip back to its previous state. There are many reasons why people suffer from back problems and most people will begin to experience back problems if they stop their chiropractic treatment.

Men and women who sit down all day at work are sure to develop back problems because sitting puts pressure on the spinal column. When the spinal column is forced to maintain a sitting position for many hours straight the vertebrae will begin to bulge and in some cases burst which is known as a herniated disc. If not properly treated the ruptured will result in a debilitating and painful condition.

Let us say for instance that a person who sits down at work all day starts to have severe pain in his back but has not yet suffered a ruptured disc. A chiropractor can perform on this person a spinal realignment in order to relieve the pain and pressure from his spine. The patient will feel as if his condition is healed but if he ceases his treatments his back will still be subject to injury if he continues to sit down at work for long periods of time.

The chiropractor visit should be a part of a well being health regimen just as going to the spa is considered a part of a wellness strategy. Many men and women work out at the gym because they want to improve their physical fitness and overall health. But once a person reaches his fitness goals he continues to workout at the gym he does not cease his work outs.

When a person experiences positive results from his chiropractic treatments it makes sense for him to keep going back to the chiropractor for regular sessions. Most people go to the spa in order to lose weight. Let us say that a person wants to drop twenty pounds so he goes to the gym regularly and develops a healthy diet which he maintains until he loses twenty pounds. Once he reaches his weight goals he must maintain his weight loss by continuing his diet plan and his work out schedule.

The person who starts to experience positive results from his chiropractic therapy, like the person who has started a healthy lifestyle, needs to continue his chiropractic treatments or else return to his previous state. Back problems never completely go away because the spine is easily dislodged. People need regular spinal adjustments in order to prevent further back injury according to chiropractic medical teaching.

Most AZ chiropractors recommend that their patients come in for regular treatments because repeat business helps the chiropractor pay his bills. But regular checkups help the dentist pay his bills so the chiropractor should not be accused of self preservation when it comes to relying on repeat business. But the chiropractor also instructs patients to have regular treatments because the chiropractor knows that most patients are subject to repeat injury if they cease their regular chiropractic sessions. for more details visit our clinic at 4045 N. 7th St. Ste# 208 Phoenix, AZ 85014.

An abnormal curve of spine that results in a S or C shape that comes out laterally and makes non-visible and visible defect to the person is known as scoliosis. This does not happen because of lack of care to the spine. This is not even contagious. Chiropractic treatment can always be helpful in case of this condition. It is a natural treatment method and can provide long term solution for scoliosis.

Scoliosis is known as an idiopathic disease. This is because no one knows for sure the exact reason or cause. Doctors however do know that scoliosis can run in families. So if a parent, sister, or brother had scoliosis, you might have it, too. There are 4 main types of scoliosis: Functional, Neuromuscular, Degenerative, and Congenital.

Scoliosis can change the appearance of a person if there are obvious uneven shoulders or hips. In case of double curvature where the spine bends twice, the patient will lose much height. Some scoliosis are not painful while others can cause severe back pain. Some patients have used pilates along with thoughtful breathing to help regain more flexibility in their spine.

Other methods that can help relief pain from scoliosis are application of heating pads, massage, hydrotherapy and ice. Before you get into other treatment methods like surgery or braces, you should first go see a chiropractor. Chiropractic care focuses on rehabilitative as well as manipulative treatment methods. It is said to be more effective than any other methods to treat this condition.

Some people develop very minor curvatures that does not affect their daily life activities, others have much more debilitating symptoms. One thing to keep in mind is not to ignore it. Ignoring this condition can lead to serious consequences over time. Chiropractic care will improve your range of motion and flexibility thru spinal manipulation. You will feel good overall. If you are suffering from scoliosis and do not know what to do, contact the doctors at New Century Spine Centers soon.

Chiropractic care involves the manipulation of spinal subluxation (when one or more of the bones of your spine move out of position and create pressure on your nerves). Because the spine protects the spinal cord, which feeds your nervous system, which in turns control all the functions of your body, it is very important to keep your spine properly align so it can protect the vulnerable spinal cord. Chiropractic care has been proven effective and for many years, people have favored the use of this scientific healing technique. Although there are controversies about it, today, both medical practitioners and chiropractors are working together to provide comprehensive care for people’s health problems.

Although chiropractic is proven safe for adults, there are questions about its safety for children. As per government regulation, chiropractors are allowed to handle pediatric cases. In fact, chiropractic has a branch that specializes in healing children. Usually, chiropractic care for children is needed when they have dysfunction on the neck, back, or spine. However, special care is observed for these young patients because there are body conditions and structures that are unique to them.

There are parents who observe misalignment on their baby’s back. Usually, this is caused by “birth trauma” due to excessive force used in order to pull the baby out during delivery. Very little force is needed to move an infant’s bone. When bones are misaligned, they press on nerves. When this happens, there is malfunction and interference with the signals traveling over these nerves, and their body will not get the proper nerve messages and therefore will not function at 100 percent. The whole body will suffer as a result.

If left untreated, these misalignments in the baby’s spine may manifest as any of the following: limited mobility of the head, neck, shoulders; recurrence of ear infection; scoliosis, persistent colds, and breastfeeding difficulties.

Sometimes, spinal problems may exist without visible physical symptoms but if a child is physically injured in any way, parents should go out of their way to check if there are more serious consequences of the injury. Seeking chiropractic care will surely help. Depending on the specific condition of the child, seeing a medical doctor may be recommended by the chiropractor himself.

Your surgeon can have a 3-D model of your anatomy before your operation. How much smoother would your spine surgery go if the orthopedic doctor had an precise duplicate of your spine before making one incision? Your surgical professional can make important decisions on how to proceed with correcting your spinal cord injury before entering the operating room. These innovative models are accurate to 1/35th mm.

Whether your back surgical professional is preparing to fix a cervical spine injury, thoracic trauma, or a lumbar fracture, holding an exact replica of your spine will offer your spinal surgical professional the opportunity to look at all angles and plan the best course of action for you. Finding the treatment for stenosis, or spondylitis can be more defined for your specific needs. The surgical professional can be more precise about the instruments needed and exact area for incisions before your back surgery begins.

Your spinal surgical professional may not even know about this advanced technology. Pre planning with these medical models can reduce operating room time by 10 to 15 percent. Thousands of dollars can be saved. When facing orthopaedic surgery, ACRM three dimensional models will save you time and money.

ACRM are Anatomically Correct three dimensional Reference medical Models which are produce by using your Computed Axial Tomography, CT scan, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI. A medical stereolithographer will analyze and format these to create an accurate replica of a patient’s anatomy. Each model is made of a bone like powder.

Neurologists can have a model in hand to prepare patients for neurosurgery. Imagine being able to visualize the course of action that will be taken for your child’s craniosynostosis. Having an exact model of the skull will give the doctor an opportunity to plan in advance of the actual surgery. This three dimensional replica will allow the neurosurgical professional a more complete view than the two dimensional imaging.

A practice run can be done on these models before brain surgery. This enables the surgical professional to be more precise in how to orchestrate an individual course of action for your specific needs. Does your surgeon know about ACRM? Discuss this revolutionary medical technology with your doctor today.

ACRM Corp is leading the industry the production and sales of patient specific, Anatomically Correct, 3-D Reference Models, from CT and MRI scans to assist with skull or spine surgeries. Visit their website (www.ACRMcorp.com) for more information about how these 3-D models can help your orthopaedic physician in their pre-surgical planning.

Scoliosis is a painful debilitating condition of the spine that affects more than 20 million people in the United States. Treatment of scoliosis of the spine ranges from observation, to physical therapy, to bracing and in the most advanced cases, anterior or posterior spinal fusion surgery. Surgery is recommended if the progression of the disease is more than 40-50 degrees. Spinal fusion is the most common type of scoliosis surgery performed. This surgical treatment for scoliosis involves placing grafted bone in the vertebral column so that the column becomes fused. Planning for this surgery involved the surgical professional reviewing X-rays to determine a plan of care.

Imagine if this plan of care could be developed using an anatomical model of your precise spine, with the exact curve. Imagine if a surgeon was able to practice their technique on this three-dimensional model and have the advantage of a test run prior to ever cutting your skin. This technology is no longer a dream it is real. Today surgical professionals have the ability to use Anatomically Correct Reference Models (ACRM) in their planning process.

These models not only increase the efficiency of surgeries they can actually decrease the surgery time. A decrease in surgical time means a savings to you as the patient. The cost of the ACRM will more than pay for itself with the decrease in surgery time and operating expenses. An ACRM typically averages between $500 to $1000. In fact the use of a 3-D model has been shown to reduce surgery time by an average of 7-10%. With the cost of orthopedic surgeries (including the hospital, anesthesiologist, orthopedic surgeon, nursing staff and equipment) averaging $22,000 per hour with an average surgery time of 7-10 hours, the patient is looking at a net savings in excess of $11,000. In addition, the shorter surgery time means a quicker recovery for the patient and a decrease in the mortality rates associated with these surgeries.

Scoliosis treatment is complicated and expensive. When looking at the ranges of therapy if you find yourself leaning toward a surgical intervention for your scoliosis wouldn’t you want your surgeon to have every available technology in planning your care? It makes sense to give our physicians every advance possible. In our quest to provide better healthcare, we need better methodology.

The use of anatomical correct reference models is great improvement in the care and management of scoliosis.

Numerous types of ailments could be the source of your back ache. It could be as simple as scoliosis, a curvature of the spine commonly found in juveniles. Or it could be as complicated as herniated discs, the cushions between your vertebrae that have compressed to the point of eruption and are pressing against nerves or are deteriorated to the point that bone rubs on bone.

There are many other conditions to consider that could be the pain-causing culprit, such as bulging discs, displacement, or fissures.

If you suffer from back pain, you want to make sure you will receive the proper care from your physician or chiropractor. What you need least is misdiagnosis, prolonged treatment that never cures your pain, or, worst of all, unnecessary surgery. But how can you or even your caretaker be sure?

There is a tool that can better simulate your accurate spinal complications to help determine the best option for treatment to result in permanent pain-free results. Don’t let you and your spinal health be a guessing game. Insist that before making the final choice to do surgery that your orthopedic surgeon not only relies on x-rays, MRIs or other flat images, but has access to the best new tool available for these choices in the medical field, a 3-Dimentional model that will effectively show the shape and condition of your spine. A model can assist the surgical professional in pre-planning surgery before going into the operating room.

Successful chiropractic treatment or work with a physical therapist depends on properly determining the source of pain from the beginning. By working with a 3-D model, professionals can move it into positions that will display the discomforts you are experiencing. Sometimes physical therapy or chiropractic treatment is the answer. However, if misdiagnosed, the wrong treatment can lead to further complications, and more intense pain.

While the right cure for your pain could be back braces, for another individual with lower back pain, surgery might be the only answer for decompression. Don’t rely on archaic methods when the pain involves you or your child. Go beyond pictures. Make sure your caretaker has access to the best tool on the market for spinal ailment diagnosis and treatment.

The patient bends forward dangling the arms, with the feet together and knees straight. The curve of structural scoliosis is more apparent when bending over.

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that occurs most often during childhood but it is seen in all age groups. In order to help prevent scoliosis from worsening, early detection is critical. The screening test used most often in schools and in the offices of pediatricians and primary care physicians is called the Adams forward bend test. The patient bends forward dangling the arms, with the feet together and knees straight. The curve of structural scoliosis is more apparent when bending over. In a patient with scoliosis, the examiner may observe an imbalanced rib cage, with one side being higher than the other, or other deformities. The typical treatment options for scoliosis involve the following: bracing, surgery, or chiropractic care.

Bracing: A scoliosis patient with 30-degree (or less) of curvature must wear a rigid brace. It assists in placing pressure against the spine for stability. Wearing a brace won’t cure scoliosis, or reverse the curve, but it usually prevents further progression of the curve. The drawback to this treatment is that it is quite uncomfortable and inconvenient as the patient must wear the brace for up to 24 hours a day and allows only restricted movements therefore most patients won’t comply.

Surgery: Referred to as Spinal Fusion Surgery, wherein a spinal cord monitor is used to prevent complications such as paralysis. An incision is made in order to insert metal rods on either sides of the spine. This procedure is expensive and risky because occasionally the rods will break while inside the body. Most patients who have this procedure will complain of more pain and even less range of motion before the surgery. Hence doctors recommend surgery only as a last resort for treating scoliosis.

Chiropractic care for scoliosis includes spinal manipulation, shoe lifts, electric stimulation, and isotonic or active exercise methods. The goal of employing chiropractic for scoliosis treatment is to arrive at a treatment that is both manipulative and rehabilitative.

Chiropractic care has gained much notoriety as viable treatment for scoliosis patients. It has been proven to be just as effective, if not more, than the existing options available for scoliosis patients. Chiropractic care not only treats existing problems but also prevents the progression of the curves. Patients who have undergone chiropractic care for scoliosis show about 70 percent improvement in terms of level of pain and the reduction in the size of the curves. Due to the significant numbers of scoliosis patients who have found relief from chiropractic care, doctors and health experts recommended chiropractic as one of the first approaches to be used for scoliosis. The results of using chiropractic treatment for scoliosis have ranged from pain reduction, improved stability, reduction in the curvature size, and total correction from the condition.
